Project description:
Our customer is looking for an architect, reporting to the account Head of Architecture for one of our largest global accounts. The architect joins the Architecture Group contributing to the delivery of services to our client. The client has a world-wide technology footprint including large centralised datacenters and small distributed sites. Our client is responsible for delivery of standardized storage services to all locations in capacities ranging from terabytes to petabytes.
The Architecture Group manages the client’s strategic technology requests for the services offered and works closely with the client’s architecture teams to:
1. Update and maintain roadmaps for new and existing services.
2. Develop new services in line with the client’s architecture strategy.
3. Evaluate client requests for non-standard service delivery.
The Architect also works with Service Delivery, Engineering and other teams to ensure high quality service delivery to the client.
Location preference: Europe (UK, Germany or the Netherlands) or US mid-Atlantic region (Houston) with access to a hub airport (occasional travel may be required).
Solution Design
- Maintain a good overview of the services currently delivered (operational, commercial, customer strategy, provider strategy, internal service delivery etc) and standard technologies and services. Improve existing services and create new services for the client, ensuring the service portfolio evolves to meet current and future customer business requirements.
- Create project solution designs and service high level designs, in-line with architecture principles and customer requirements, to meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and commercial constraints.
Subject Matter Expert
- Provide input into the development of the service roadmaps, acting as a trusted advisor to our client.
- Act as SME/technology lead in projects. Initiate activities to bring the project to successful conclusion. Assist colleagues to deliver project solutions compatible with storage services and technologies offered to the client.
- Provide guidance and expert opinion to service delivery management and account management teams.
- Provide support for other architecture domains (database, middleware, SAP etc) to ensure standardization of solutions utilizing storage services (e.g. matching requirements to a standard solution and design reviews).
- Act as an escalation point in the event that services are at risk.
Communication
- Maintain effective working relationships with the teams/individuals by our customer and the client. Maintain vendor relationships in-line with business strategy.
- Communicate designs, strategy, planning etc to all groups, both internal T-Systems and client groups.
Successful candidates will possess a bachelors degree in a relevant technology discipline or equivalent work experience, as well as the following experience and skills:
- Minimum 5 years experience working in a storage engineering or consultancy position.
- Strong experience in a customer facing position in a challenging environment.
- Good experience of at least 3 current storage vendors and their products.
- Good experience of working in international virtual teams.
- Experienced working in a culturally diverse environment.
- Experienced working on escalations, projects and strategy.
- TOGAF certification (desirable).
- Experience of Oil and Gas industry (not essential).
Technical skills
- Technical design and engineering skills using advanced storage technologies, including block and file storage subsystems, systems with higher level functionality inside and outside the data path (deduplication/compression, HSM, global namespace, object storage, remote caching, WAN acceleration etc), all common access protocols and operating system and application utilization of storage.
- Demonstrate solid understanding of all modern and historic storage concepts and technologies (e.g. 512B/4KB blocks).
- Understanding of state management in backup and disaster recovery solutions/designs, including data replication (synchronous and asynchronous).
- Understanding of operational support tools and processes in a global infrastructure (provisioning and evergreening, incident and problem management, reporting, etc).
